1.6 Supported File Systems
RecoveryFox AI supports all major file systems, including NTFS, FAT32, exFAT, FAT12/16, EXT2/3/4, XFS, HFS+, and APFS. It can also recover data from RAW, unallocated, or other unrecognized, corrupted file systems.
NTFS (New Technology File System): the default file system for Windows; commonly used for internal and external hard drives and some USB flash drives.
FAT32 (File Allocation Table 32): widely for USB flash drives and memory cards, compatible with various devices like phones, game consoles, cameras, etc.
exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table): work with flash storage devices like USB drives and SD cards.
EXT4 (Fourth Extended File System): The most widely used Linux file system. It is commonly found in Linux PCs, servers, NAS devices, and Android-based systems. EXT4 is known for its stability, performance, and support for large storage volumes.
APFS (Apple File System): APFS (Apple File System): Apple’s modern file system used in macOS, iOS, and iPadOS devices. It is optimized for SSD storage and offers fast performance, strong encryption, and snapshot-based data protection. It is standard on all modern Apple devices.
RAW (Unrecognized or Corrupted File System): RAW is not a real file system but a status indicating that the operating system cannot recognize the drive’s file system. It often occurs due to file system corruption, improper ejection, formatting errors, or partition damage. Drives in RAW state are typically inaccessible, but data may still be recoverable through deep scanning and partition reconstruction.
